On March 1, 2018, CT HFMA held their second Women in Leadership Event at the beautiful Madison Beach Hotel in Madison. This event was brought back by popular demand after last year’s event which was held in Hartford at the Society Room.
The night started off like most events with an hour of networking, but this year we added a twist. In an effort to engage our attendees and add some fun to social hour we incorporated a bingo game. As guests arrived, they were provided a bingo board with instructions for ways to win a raffle prize. There were three ways to get your card entered into the raffle; complete one row of traditional bingo for 3rd prize, complete two or more rows for 2nd prize and fill the entire bingo card for 1st prize. As the crowd mingled, I noticed the room filled with chatter and laughter. Our networking twist was a hit, everyone was mingling and moving around the room, asking each other questions. The game helped break the ice and we were pleased to see that 90% of the participants filled their entire bingo square!
As the night progressed, everyone made their way to the ball room, where we were introduced to our keynote speaker, Sherry Stewart Deutschmann- CEO of Sunset Ventures, Inc. and Founder of LetterLogic. Sherry’s compelling first-hand account of climbing the corporate ladder as a women leader motivated the audience and was a great interlude to our panelist discussion. Six panelists shared their personal stories of how they climbed the corporate ladder and ended up in their current roles. Each panelist offered a unique insight regarding obstacles they encountered and how they overcame them in addition to providing guidance on how to find good mentors, how they manage work-life balance and advice for current and future female leaders. Our six panelists included Andrea Balogh, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Women’s Health USA; Kirsten Jones, Market President Hartford Healthcare- GoHealth Urgent Care; Cassandra Mitchell, Regional VP, Revenue Cycle, Connecticut Market, Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc.; Laura Redinger, Senior Vice President, Director, Commercial Segment Enterprise Strategy, KeyCorp; Korrine Roth, Administative Director of Quality, Safety & Satisfaction, Western Connecticut Health Network; and Jennifer Willcox, Vice President, Legal Services, Yale New Haven Health.
Overall this event was a success. As healthcare and our leaders evolve, it’s important to come together as professionals and continue to network and collaborate with one another while providing advice and support for the upcoming leaders and their challenges ahead. We are already brainstorming for the next event and would love to hear feedback from you. Please feel free to reach out to me with any suggestions and feedback: Amanda.kelly@HHCHealth.org.
